Hey all, first i gotta say, this is a great game, luv it and the mods created by the community. Havent played it for very long tho, got it about a week ago, but have major problems with MAV, major lag spikes and the problem with Nvidia card resetting\restoring with Crash to Desktop.

Have tried any and every "fix" posted on this forums, so i did my "search the forum" for hours before making this post...

The Vista\7.exe fix, will start the game, but either with gfx on half, or guaranteed when playing more then 20 mins, on lower gfx the game\comp. gets one of the problems mentioned.

From what ive seen so far, this is a great game, but as far as I understand, this seems to be a Nvidia related problem, not sure if its Nvidia+vista/7 since i tried the game way after i got of my last XP machine...

My question is, will there be a fix for this problem, or will this remain a "oldschool" game, that actually requiers you to have a computer thats 5 years or older?

I built this PC about 2 years ago so starting to get old for a gamer computer, here's the specs:

Win 7 (64)
Intel Core2Duo E8400 3GHz
2x Geforce 8800 GT (I hate these cards) (tried newest drivers & oldest possible for Win7) (tried SLI on\off)
8GB RAM

Anyways, really hope there will be a fix, or that there is one that I didnt find, orelse this game would die out pretty fast as people upgrade theyr hardware.

well, yeah, the fix works as it starts the game, versus crash after intro without, but as i read somewhere, vista/7 or only 7, emulates dx7 with software, so game isnt using the gfxcards, or something like that... might be just me tho

shortly after writing this, i loaded the fix, both with mods and without, and it crashed my game and or system, it might just be the random map mode, as i used it for the first time on win7 today, and the other modes have only rarely crashed, but who knows.

yep, i also tried both with and w\o mods, since i read somewhere that some scripts\models could couse crashes or MAV, the "vanilla" didnt do any better tho...

When starting the adventure the game "seems" ok to start with, but thats cuz the island is so small i think. When making a random\large island tho, i cant even move 10 meters w\o a large lagspike. Tried lowering the gfx too lowest possible, and yeah it get a little better, but the problems are still the same, for me its totaly unplayable atm

I have the same problem, makes me sad, I really enjoyed my time on the small first island on adventure and wanted to expand to larger islands but it is unplayable on larger islands. I like you searched the forums for several hours and tried everything I read.

If you have the win 7 profesional you can setup an xp emulator and it might run in that. I unfortunately have home premium and it won't let me do it. sometimes I hate microsoft.

Actually running Ultimate edition, and trying out the Virtual XP mode "as we speak".
But, still trying it out, havent gotten it to run S2 yet, since now i got the "Need DirectX \ GFX drivers" message when trying to run it i'll make a post laters on how it works out, but not looking good atm. Thanks for the tip tho the Virtual XP can be usefull on other thingys, & didnt know about until you posted, Trusin, thanks

Edit:

Nope, wont start, since theres no way to install gfx drivers on a virtual machine...

Well, that stinks. I played around with direct gfx control through the Nvidia panel on the .exe.

I managed to be able to do a medium island with minimal hangups. I had to turn everything way down though which is no way to play.

I am hoping that the guy working on the new MP .exe he claims to have a win7 fix included in the .exe.

I just hope its not just like the current one because that one still doesn't work for me.

I really wish some people who have win7 64bit and it runs smooth would help us play around and find out what is different about their system.

nope, as I mentioned after my GFX card specs, i've tried the oldest drivers possible for a Win7 OS, atleast posted at the Nvidia site. (Win7 -64bit that is... )

Anyways, i'd have no problem playing on a Vista setup, with old Nvidia drivers, i think...
But No frikkin way im going back too sirup Vista, after trying out 7

old Got it to work!

I was trying something new to get another game that woudln't work to work and I thought, hmm I wonder if this fixed my Stranded 2... sure enough I can play huge islands with no lagging or tearing.

What I did:
1.Go to your Add/Remove Program and remove anything that has to do with your Nvidia drivers / gfx drivers and OpenAL

2.Restart your computer and install the gfx drivers for your card, and google OpenAL and get the download and install that.

3. Another Restart and then start stranded 2.

I still did have lagging and tearing but playing around with the gfx settings I got it to work smooth.

I lowered water detail to minimum, anything above and it causes huge amounts of lag for some reason, also noticed some spikes when 2d processing was on so I turned that off.

Other than that I run everything else at full and have a smooth experience on huge islands. I hope this helps becuase this was a real bummer for me when I couldn't get it to play right.
